How to store bamboo veneers Properly?

Proper storage is essential to protect bamboo veneers from moisture imbalance, deformation, surface damage, and color variation. Follow these guidelines to maintain consistent quality from warehouse to production.

  • Store Flat and Fully Supported

Always store bamboo veneer sheets flat on a rigid base such as plywood or MDF.

  • Place a protective board on top and apply light, evenly distributed weight to prevent curling.
  • Keep veneers tightly stacked and covered with cardboard or plywood to protect edges and surfaces.
  • Avoid leaning sheets against walls for extended periods, as this may cause bending or warping.
  • Maintain Stable Climate Conditions and Protect From Moisture

Recommended Environment

  • Relative Humidity: 40–55%
  • Temperature: 15–24°C (60–75°F)

Avoid rapid changes in temperature or humidity, which can cause expansion or shrinkage.

  • Do not store near doors, vents, exterior walls, heaters, AC outlets, windows, or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid garages, basements, or attics where humidity fluctuates.

Moisture Protection

Bamboo veneer absorbs moisture quickly, so proper elevation and packaging are critical:

  • Store bundles on fumigated wooden pallets or plastic pallets
  • Minimum pallet clearance from floor: 100–150 mm
  • Wrap bundles with kraft paper or PE film (with small ventilation holes to prevent condensation)
  • Never expose veneer to direct water or high-humidity environments

Extra Tip:
Maximum stack height should be 800–1000 mm to prevent compression marks. For premium veneers, consider adjustable storage racks with pressure screws to maintain even compression.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat Sources

UV exposure and heat can discolor bamboo veneer and weaken adhesives.

  • Store in dark cabinets or opaque containers to prevent UV fading
  • Keep away from windows, heaters, and ventilation outlets

Extra Tip:
Carbonized and dyed bamboo veneers should remain fully covered at all times to preserve color consistency.

  • Separation By Color, Grain and Thickness

Store bamboo veneers by:

  • Color: Natural / Khaki / Light Carbonized / Carbonized
  • Grain: Vertical / Horizontal / High-density
  • Thickness

Label each bundle clearly with color, grain, thickness, and production date. Never mix different types in one stack to avoid color transfer and handling errors.

  • Perfrom Regular Quality Inspections

Conduct weekly checks for:

  • Moisture content (target: 8–12%)
  • Flatness and edge condition
  • Mold or unusual odor
  • Packaging integrity

Immediately isolate any affected bundles to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Use a Pre-production conditioning Area

Before pressing or laminating:

  • Move veneer into a conditioning room
  • Allow 24–48 hours for acclimation
  • Maintain the same temperature and relative humidity as the production floor

This step minimizes dimensional movement and improves lamination stability.
